To demonstrate the potential speed of your map application, even on the basis of the WMS standard, we have created an online demo. In the demo setup MapProxy is used to secure and speed-up a conventional WMS server and to add new features. The WMS provides data of the OpenStreetMap project (OSM) from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
The following section describes what the MapProxy does in this demo. In addition there are some notes on using the demo web-mapping application. Direct to the online demonstration.
Features of the MapProxy in the demo
MapProxy takes on different functions in the online demo. The detailed description of the product can be found here. In the demo you will see the following functions in action:
- Acceleration of the origin server → for web and desktop GIS
- Provision of the data as TMS → tiled-maps for OpenLayers
- Concealing of the origin server → server is not accessible from the internet
- Support for all WMS versions → 1.0.0, 1.1.1, 1.3.0
- Transformation of WMS requests into other coordinate systems → even if the origin WMS doesn't support it
Instructions
Demo Application
The demo application is built on the web client OpenLayers. You can switch between various map layers in the upper-right corner of the map. You can choose between the following levels:
- OpenStreetMap as TMS
- OpenStreetMap as WMS
- Google & OpenStreetMap
(GoogleMaps satellite images overlaid with OpenStreetMap roads)
Navigation
The map can be moved by dragging (clicking and moving the mouse). You can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out, or use the plus and minus symbols (
,
) on the left.
To zoom into a specific area, hold the shift key while selecting a zoom region with the mouse.
Desktop-GIS
You can use the demo of MapProxy directly in your desktop GIS. Refer your desktop GIS to the following GetCapbilities URL: http://osm.Omniscale.net/proxy/service?service=WMS&request=GetCapabilities. The WMS supports versions 1.0.0, 1.1.1 and 1.3.0 and different coordinate systems. If you use the WMS, please note our terms of use.
The data
The online demo shows data from the OpenStreetMap project (OSM). In the demo the OSM data is presented in a new look and with a revised information density.
Have fun with our maps. Please note our terms of use.
